    Solution :

    The first overtone of a wave on string is given by                                 \[n=\frac{v}{\lambda }\] where \[1\] is wavelength, \[v\] the velocity and \[n\] the frequency. Given, \[\lambda =l\] (in first overtone) \[\therefore \]  \[n=\frac{v}{l}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[v=nl=250\times 2=500\,\,m/s\]
