In Amoeba which controls the cytoplasmic osmality?

    A)  nucleus

    B)  ectoplasm

    C)  biurets

    D)  contractile vacuole

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Contractile vacuole is present in fresh water protozoans. The protoplasm of Amoeba is of higher concentration than the freshwater which causes entrance of water by endosmosis in the body. This leads to get ride of excess water to prevent swelling and rupture of Amoebas body. The mechanism which control the water amount is called osmoregulation. The main function of contractile vacuole is osmoregulation (though \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]and nitrogenous waste are also excreted through it. The ectoplasm lying immediatly beneath the plasmalemma is thin, clear and transparent. It forms a hyaline cap at the tip of pseudopodio. Single, large flattened, discoidal and slightly biconcave nucleus is found in Amoeba. It is found in endoplasm. The crystals of biurates and triurates found regularly in the endoplasm are formed of excretory substance carbohyl diurea.
