    A)  hypertrophy of gonads

    B)  hypo-secretion of adrenal cortex

    C)  hyperactivity of cells of Leydig

    D)  none of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Addisons disease is caused due to deficiency   of mineralocorticoides   and glucocorticoides, which is characterised by low blood sugar, low plasma \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}^{\text{+}}}\text{,}\]high\[{{\text{K}}^{\text{+}}}\]plasma, vomiting etc. The gonads are the sex glands i.e., ovaries and  testes. The Leydigs cells secrete testosterone. The excess of testosterone causes enlargement of penis, masculinisation, early appearance of pubic and axillary hair, faster body growth etc. The excess of oestrogen (female hormone) causes early breast formation and early appearance of pubic hair.
