In photosynthesis, for fixation of one mole of glucose number of ATP and \[\text{NADP}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\]required is:

    A)  12 and 18

    B)  18 and 12

    C)  6 and 12

    D)  18 and 18

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

During photosynthesis one Calvin cycle takes in only one carbon (as\[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]) at a time so it takes six turns of the cycle to produce six carbon compound (glucose). For formation of one molecule of hexose sugar (glucose) 18 ATP and \[\text{12}\,\text{NADP}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\]are used whereas 30 ATP and \[\text{12}\,\text{NADP}{{\text{H}}_{2}}\]are used during \[{{\text{C}}_{\text{4}}}\]  cycle. -These ATP and \[\text{NADP}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\](assimilatory power) are produced during light reaction of photosynthesis.
