    Submerged hydrophytes shows

    A)   stomata

    B)  abundant air sacs

    C)  developed mechanical tissue

    D)  secondary growth

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The plants, which live in abundance of water are called hydrophytes. The hydrophytic  plants, which remain under water are called submerged hydrophytes. The air spaces are extensively developed in root, stem and leaves  of these plants, eg, Hydrilla, Vallisneria, Ceratophyllum, Utricularia etc. Stomata are absent in submerged hydrophytes. The floating hydrophytes have stomata on upper surface of leaf. Mechanical tissues are poorly developed in submerged hydrophytes or may absent vascular tissue are poorly developed and, therefore, secondary growth is either absent or poor.
