    Regeneration of liver is

    A)  metamorphosis

    B)  repairative regeneration

    C)  epimorphosis

    D)  morphogenesis

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The animal possesses the ability to repair more or less extensive damage incurred by the body either accidently in natural conditions or  willfully imposed by the experimenter, this process of repair is known as regeneration. When the regeneration is limited to the repair or healing or wounds, it is called repairative regeneration. It takes place by localized cell proliferation and migration, eg, healing of bone fracture, regeneration of liver (compensatory regeneration). Epimorphosis   (epimorphic   regeneration)  replaces the lost part of the body. It involves dedifferentiation of adult structure in order to form an undifferentiated mass of cells. It  ccurs in appendages of prawn, arms of starfish, limbs of salamander etc. Metamorphosis is the sharp change in form during post-embryonic development, eg, development of tadpole into frog and larval insects into adults.      Morphogenesis is the development of the architectural features of organisms, formation and differentiation of tissues and organs.
