     From Newtons second law,\[F=\frac{dp}{dt}\] If \[F=0,\]then \[\frac{dp}{dt}=0\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[p=\text{constant}\text{.}\] Thus, if total external force acting on the system is zero, then linear momentum of the system remains conserved.
