    Solution :

    Critical angle\[({{\theta }_{C}})\]is the angle of incidence\[(i)\]in the denser medium for which the angle of refraction in the rarer medium is\[{{90}^{o}}\]. For total internal reflection to take place                 \[i>{{\theta }_{C}}\] Taking sine on both sides, we get                 \[\sin i>\sin {{\theta }_{C}}\] [as angle\[i\]at both faces will be \[{{45}^{o}}\]] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}>\frac{1}{\mu }\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\mu >\sqrt{2}\]
