MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2014

  • question_answer
How many moles of Pt may be deposited on the cathode when 0.80 F of electricity is passed through a 1.0 M solution of\[P{{t}^{4+}}\]?

    A)  1.0 mol

    B)  0.20 mol

    C)  0.40 mol

    D)  0.80 mol

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The electrode reaction is \[P{{t}^{4+}}+4{{e}^{-}}\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}Pt\] \[\therefore \]Quantity of charge required for reduction of 1 mole of \[P{{t}^{4+}}=4F\] or 4F electricity produces = 1 mole of \[P{{t}^{4+}}\] \[\therefore \]0.80 F electricity will produce \[=\frac{0.80}{4}=0.20\,mol\,of\,P{{t}^{4+}}\]
