  • question_answer
A mono atomic gas \[\left( \gamma =\frac{5}{3} \right)\] is suddenly compressed to \[\frac{1}{8}th\] of its volume adiabatically. Then the pressure of the gas will change to

    A) \[\frac{47}{3}\]

    B) \[18\]

    C) \[\frac{29}{5}\]

    D)  32 times its initial pressure

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Using the relation for an adiabatic change we have                 \[PV{{}^{\gamma }}=P{{V}^{\gamma }}\] (given:\[V=\frac{V}{8}\]or\[\frac{V}{V}=8\],\[\gamma =\frac{5}{3}\])                 \[P=P{{\left( \frac{V}{V} \right)}^{\gamma }}\] So,          \[P=P{{(8)}^{5/3}}=P\times 32\]
