A mass m attached to a spring oscillate every\[2\sec \]. If the mass increases by\[2\,\,kg\], then time period increases by\[1\sec \]. The initial mass of the body is:

    A) \[12.6\,\,kg\]

    B) \[9.6\,\,kg\]

    C) \[3.2\,\,kg\]

    D) \[1.6\,\,kg\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Initial time period\[{{T}_{1}}=2\sec \] Final time period\[{{T}_{2}}=2+1=3\sec \] Initial mass\[{{m}_{1}}=m\,\,kg\] Final mass\[{{m}_{2}}=(m+2)\,\,kg\] Time period\[T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{m}{k}}\] Now in first case\[2=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{m}{k}}\]                     ... (1) In second case\[3=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{m+2}{k}}\]                    ... (2) Solving equations (1) and (2), we get                 \[\frac{9}{4}=\frac{m+2}{m}\] or            \[9m=4m+8\]8 or            \[5m=8,\]so\[m=1.6\,\,kg\]
