    Guttation occurs through

    A)  lenticels

    B)  hydathodes

    C)  periderm

    D)  stomata

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Removal of water particularly from tips of leaves of the plant is known as guttation. This process takes place through the special structures known as hydathodes which are found at the vein ending of leaves. Lenticels are small raised pores, usually elliptical, found on woody stems, in portion of periderm. Their main function is gaseous exchange. Periderm is an aggregate form of phellogen (cork cambium), phelloderm (secondary cortex) and phellem (cork). This is a protective covering found outside the cortex and protects internal tissues of plant. Stomata are kidney-shaped structures found on aerial green parts or stem and leaves. These are employed for the process of transpiration and gaseous exchange.
