RAJASTHAN PMT Rajasthan - PMT Solved Paper-1999

  • question_answer
Focal length of a lens is + 10 cm and its refractive index is 1.4, it is dipped in a liquid of refractive index 1.6, then its focal length becomes:

    A)  - 16 cm

    B)         + 32 cm

    C)  + 16 cm

    D)         - 32 cm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    When lens is dipped in liquid, then its focal length\[=fe\] \[\frac{{{f}_{l}}}{{{f}_{a}}}=\left( \frac{_{a}{{n}_{g}}-1}{_{l}ng} \right)\] \[\frac{1.4-1}{^{=}\left( \frac{1.4}{1.6}-1 \right)}=\frac{0.4\times 1.6}{0.2}=3.2\] \[\frac{{{f}_{l}}}{10}=3.2\Rightarrow {{f}_{l}}=-32\,cm\]
