  • question_answer
When a capillary tube is immersed in water, then it rises up to height of 3 cm. If the surface tension of water is \[75\times {{10}^{-3}}N/m\]. Then the diameter of capillary tube will be:

    A)  0 1 mm

    B)  0.5 mm

    C)  1 mm

    D)         2 mm

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    From \[T=\frac{rhdg}{2}\] Radius\[T=\frac{2T}{hdg}\] \[\begin{align}   & =\frac{2\times 75\times {{10}^{-3}}}{3\times {{10}^{-2}}\times {{10}^{3}}\times }=50\times {{10}^{-5}} \\  & =0.5\times {{10}^{-3}}\,m=0.5\,mm \\ \end{align}\] Diameter = 2r \[=2\times 0.5\,=1\,mm\]
