  • question_answer
At the same temperature and pressure the densities of two diatomic gases are\[{{d}_{1,}}\] and \[{{d}_{2,}}\] Then the ratio of velocities of sound in these gases will be

    A)  \[\frac{{{d}_{1}}}{{{d}_{2}}}\]

    B)  \[\sqrt{\frac{{{d}_{2}}}{{{d}_{1}}}}\]

    C)  \[\sqrt{\frac{{{d}_{1}}}{{{d}_{2}}}}\]

    D)         \[\frac{{{d}_{2}}^{2}}{{{d}_{1}}^{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Speed of sound, \[\upsilon =\sqrt{\frac{\gamma P}{d}}\propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{d}}\] (for given same pressure, \[\gamma \]and temperature) \[\therefore \]  \[\frac{{{u}_{1}}}{{{\upsilon }_{2}}}=\sqrt{\left( \frac{{{d}_{2}}}{{{d}_{1}}} \right)}\]
