  • question_answer
What will be the angular width of central maximum in Fraunhofer diffraction when light of wavelength \[6000\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] is used and slit width is \[12\times {{10}^{-5}}cm\]?

    A)  2 rad

    B)  3 rad

    C)  1 rad

    D)         8 rad

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    In Fraunhofer diffraction, the angular separation of central maxima on either side is \[\text{=}\lambda \text{/e}\] So, angular width\[\text{2}\text{=2}\lambda \text{/e}\] where, e = slit width \[\therefore \]  \[2\text{=}\frac{2\times 6000\times {{10}^{-10}}}{12\times {{10}^{-5}}\times {{10}^{-2}}}=1\,rad\]
