The correct order of stability of following carbocation is (I) (II) (III) (IV)

    A) \[(III)>(II)>(I)>(IV)\]

    B)        \[(II)>(III)>(I)>(IV)\]

    C)        \[(I)>(II)>(III)>(IV)\]

    D)        None of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Aromatic or aryl ring provides more stable carbonium ion, while aliphatic alkyl groups provides less stability due to +1 effect of alkyl group. Generally stability of carbonium ion decreases in the following order. Triphenyl methyl carbonium > diphenyl methyl carbonium > benzyl carbonium > allyl carbonium > tertiary carbonium > secondary carbonium > primary carbonium > methyl carbonium.
