    Solution :

    In the reaction                 \[_{90}T{{h}^{228}}{{\xrightarrow{{}}}_{83}}B{{i}^{212}}\] (Here, \[x\]and \[y\] are the number of \[\alpha \] and \[\beta -\]particles) \[\because \]     \[228-4x=212\]                 \[-4x=212-228\]                 \[-4x=-16\] and        \[90-2\times 4+y=83\]                 \[82+y=83\]                 \[y=83-82\]                 \[y=1\] Hence \[4\alpha \] and \[1\beta \] particles are emitted in the nuclear reaction.
