  • question_answer
The freezing point of a solution composed of 10.0 g of \[KCl\] in 100 g of water is \[{{4.5}^{o}}C\]. Calculate the vant Hoff factor, i for this solution.

    A)  \[2.50\]

    B)  \[1.8\]

    C)  \[1.2\]

    D)  \[1.3\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

     \[\Delta {{T}_{f}}=i{{K}_{f}}m\] \[m=\frac{10\times 1000}{74.55\times 100}=1.34m\] \[i-\frac{\Delta {{T}_{f}}}{{{K}_{f}}m}=\frac{{{4.5}^{o}}C}{({{1.86}^{o}}C/m)(1.34m)}\] \[=1.8\]
