A preposition is a word which comes before a noun or a pronoun and shows its relation to other words in the sentence.

See the following examples:

1. Preposition of time

(A) I got up at 9 o'clock.

(B) She has been dancing for two hours.

2. Preposition of manner

(A) He earns money by boxing

(B) She played with care.

3. Preposition of place

(A) An accident took place near the church.

(B) A truck ran over a cycle.

4. Preposition of direction

(A ) The rat ran towards the hole.
