12th National Tribal Youth Exchange Programme begins in Puducherry. Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Dr Kiran Bedi inaugurated this Programme. Two hundred youths from Naxal-affected districts of Chattisgarh are taking part in this week-long programme. The programme has been jointly organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and Puducherry Government with a view to ensuring development and empowerment of the tribal youths. They will be visiting many places to know about the language, customs, culture, arts, dressing patterns, food pattern and other aspects of Puducherry. |

This campaign aims to spread the message of fuel conservation and greener environment across India. Petroleum Conservation Research Association has been creating awareness in the public about the need for fuel conservation and adopting tips for saving fuel. This campaign carries out various activities like ‘Saksham’ cycle Day, cyclotrons, seminars for housewives on adopting the simple fuel-saving measure. |
The 6th meeting of the Island Development Agency (IDA) was chaired by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The Island Development Agency analysed the developments taken place in favour of the programme “Holistic development of islands”. NITI Aayog has been given the onus of steering the process of “Holistic Development of Islands”. During the meet, initiatives of sustainable development in the identified Islands were taken under Island Development Agency. The initiatives aims to create jobs for the island population by promoting tourism as well as boosting the seafood and coconut-based products export from the Island. The above initiative will be implemented in 5 islands of Lakshadweep as well as 4 islands of Andaman & Nicobar. To strengthen the infrastructure on Islands, projects would be set up to improving air, sea and digital connectivity. By June 2020, Port Blair including 7 other islands in Andaman & Nicobar would be digitally connected via submarine optical fibre cable which would also increase the number of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Islands. |
India’s Statue of Unity has become the part of ‘8 Wonders of SCO’ list. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation has included the Statue of Unity in its ‘8 Wonders of SCO’ list. The Statue of Unity is the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, first Home Minister of the independent India. The 182 metre tall statue is the world’s tallest statue located in Kevadia, Gujarat. The statue was inaugurated on 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 2018. |
On January 13, 2020, the Indian Aviation Ministry announced that registration of all drones in the country is mandatory. The Ministry has given January 31, 2020 as deadline for the users to register their drones. |

Union Minister of Steel launched mission PURVODAYA for the development of eastern India through integrated steel hub in Kolkata, West Bengal. Under this mission, the government aims to transform logistics and utility infrastructure which would change the socio-economic landscape in eastern India. This mission also includes the growth of the steel industry along with employment opportunities across the entire value chain. The Purvodaya in the steel sector is aimed at driving the accelerated development of Eastern India through the establishment of an integrated steel hub. Eastern states of India West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Northern part of Andhra Pradesh collectively hold 80% of the country’s iron ore, 100% of coking coal and a significant portion of chromite, bauxite and dolomite reserves. |
The NIIT (National institute of Information Technology), a multi-national company has been selected as one of the EdTech companies for the NEAT initiative. The NIIT will work with AICTE to implement the vision of Ministry of HRD (Human and Resource Development) on NEAT. |
