        Why did Mendel choose pea plant for his experiments?

                      Mendel choose pea plant for his experiment due to following reasons (i) Pea plants were self pollinating (which enabled them to produce next generation of plants easily). (ii) Pea plants were easy to cultivate and had short life span. (iii) They had sharply defined and contrasting traits such as height (tall, dwarf), seed colour(yellow-green), etc.
