What do you understand by bond pairs and lone pairs of electrons?

    Answer:

The shared pairs of electrons present between the bonded atoms are called bond pairs. It is not necessary that all electrons present in the valence shell of an atom should take part in the bonding. The electron pairs present on the atoms which do not take part in bonding are called lone pairs. For example, in water molecule, there are two bond pairs and two lone pairs.
