A child has blood group O. If the father has blood group A and mother blood group B. Work out the genotypes of parents and the possible genotypes of other parents.

    Answer:

If the father has blood group A i.e.,  (homozygous) and mother has blood group B i.e.,  then all the offsprings will have blood group  and not blood group O.                 Child will have blood group O only when both the parents are heterozygous, i.e., father  and mother .                                 Thus the genotypes of the parents of child with blood group O will be  and . There is possibility of 3 other types of offsprings besides 0 blood group offspring. They are  (blood group A),  (blood group B) and  (blood group AB).
