The carbon-oxygen bond in phenol is slightly stronger than that in methanol. Why ?

    Answer:

Due to +R-effect of the OH group, phenol can be regarded as a resonance hybrid of five structures,     given on page 11/24. Out of these, structures II, III and IV contain a carbon-oxygen double bond. In other words C?O bond in phenols has some double bond character and hence stronger than the C?O bond in alcohols which is a pure single bond.
