    What are nucleic acids? Mention their two importantfunctions.

    Nucleic acids The biomolecules which are found in thenuclei of living organisms in the form of nucleoproteins or chromosomesare called nucleic acids. Nucleic acids are of two types; DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid). Functions of Nucleic Acids (1) DNA, due to its replication property, transmits hereditarycharacteristics from one generation to another. (2) RNA and DNA help in the protein synthesis in the cell. RNAsynthesises the protein and DNA has the message for thissynthesis.
