  • question_answer 1)
How will you determine the standard electrode potential of the system Mg2+/Mg?

    Answer:

This can he determined by connecting the half cell carrying this reaction with a standard hydrogen electrode acting as the other half cell. The reading in the voltmeter (+2.36 v) gives the standard e.m.f. of the cell.                                 The direction of flow of current is from S.H.E. to magnesium electrode which means oxidation takes places at magnesium electrode (anode).                 2.36 V = E2H + /H2  ?                 2.36 V = 0 ?
