7th Class Science Acids, Bases and Salts / अम्ल, क्षार एवं लवण

  • question_answer 9)
Describe the process of neutralization with the help of an example.

    Answer:

The reaction between an acid and a base is known as neutralization reaction. In this reaction, both acid and base cancel each other's effect. Neutralization reaction result in the formation of salt and water. During this reaction, energy in the form of heat is evolved. \[Acid+Base\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}Salt+Water+Heat\uparrow \] e.g. When sodium hydroxide \[\left( NaOH \right)\] is added to hydrochloric acid \[\left( HCl \right)\], sodium chloride \[\left( NaCl \right)\] and water \[({{H}_{2}}O)\] are obtained. \[\underset{\begin{smallmatrix} Sodium \\ hydroxide \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{NaOH}}\,+\underset{\begin{smallmatrix} Hydrochloric \\ acid \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{HCl}}\,\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}\underset{\begin{smallmatrix} Sodium \\ Chloride \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{NaCl}}\,+\underset{Water}{\mathop{{{H}_{2}}O}}\,+Heat\uparrow \]
