Since 1975, Ralegaon Siddhi village in Maharashtra was affected by severe drought. Anna Hazare, one of the India's most noted social activists, helped the people to fight against drought. He started his movement concentrating on trapping every drop of rain, which is basically a drought mitigation practice.   •The villagers built check dams and tanks and dug canals.   •To conserve Soil they planted trees and stopped open grazing.   •The result was that from 80 acres of irrigated area two decades ago Ralegaon Siddhi now has massive area 1300 acres under irrigation.   •No World Bank funding, no government grants were required only people's enterprise.
