HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEMS
To solve a puzzle, a candidate is required to analyse the given information. One should make a table or figure or sequence as per given data.
EXAMPLE
There are five friends A, B, C, D and E. D is not as tall as A. A is taller than C but shorter than B. E is shorter than C. No two are equal in height. Who is the tallest?
(a) A (b) B (c) C (d) D
Explanation (b):
D is not as tall as A \[\Rightarrow \] D < A
A is taller than C but shorter than B \[\Rightarrow \] C < A < B
E is shorter than C \[\Rightarrow \] E < C
Combining last two statements, we get E < C < A < B
Combining this last result and the first statement, we get all possible cases as given below:
(i) E < C < D < A < B
(ii) E < D < C < A < B
(iii) D < E < C < A < B
In each case, B is the tallest one.
