      Why is that sodium when react with water form   sodium   hydroxide   whereas aluminium form only aluminium oxide?

    Answer:

                    Sodium metal reacts with water to form sodium oxide which further dissolves in water to give sodium hydroxide solution. Aluminium reacts with oxygen to from aluminium oxide which does not dissolve in water to form aluminium hydroxide.                                      (2)
