The government of Delhi and Delhi Transport  Corporation   (DTC)   have converted   passenger   buses   into CNG-based vehicles. Give reasons for such a decision. Is CNG an ideal fuel according to you? Comment.      

Answer:

                CNG is a cleaner fuel than diesel undoubtedly. It does not produce smoke or nitrogen and sulphur oxides on burning.                              (1) Moreover, it is much cheaper than diesel. However, CNG cannot be regarded as an ideal fuel.                                                                     (1) This is due to following reasons                        (i) CNG itself is a non-renewable source of energy. Hence, it is not a permanent solution to the  energy requirements. (ii) CNG produces on burning which is a  greenhouse gas and is a major cause of global warming.                                   (iii) Efficiency of CNG is lesser as compared to diesel.                                                              (1x3)
