Do the following two statements mean the same? Justify your answer. (a) People have different developmental goals. (b) People have conflicting developmental goals.

    Answer:

Both the statements are independently correct and have relevance. (i) Society consists of different sections of public from farmer, land labour, urban people to industrialists, etc. They have different meaning to their developmental goals. Farmers and land less labours may have simple goals in their life and they just want their country should give adequate subsequent level of life and happiness. But urban people and industrialists have more complex developmental goals and they count development in terms of security, freedom, modern facilities and world standard lifestyle comparable to developed countries. So, development has different meaning to different sections of the society. (ii) Sometimes developmental aspirations are conflicting among the sections of the society. For example an industrialist desire more electricity and want more dams to set up for this purpose. "But the dams make displacement of many local people. So, local community often protest against such developmental projects. Here,   the   developmental   goal   of industrialists and local rural people are not only different but also conflicting . A country should have a good plan to carry out developmental work that caters goals of maximum  people  and  avoid  many conflicting situations.
