Discuss project tiger and its consequences on conservation strategy. How project tiger become a mark shift in conservation of wildlife in India. Or Why was project tiger launched? What were its objectives? What are its effects on conservation of wildlife?

    Answer:

Project tiger was launched to prevent killing of tigers by poachers, as the tiger is one of the key wildlife species in the faunal web. The main objectives of project tiger are to ensure a viable population of tigers in India for scientific, economic, aesthetic, cultural and ecological values and to preserve areas of biological importance as a natural heritage for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the people. This includes wildlife management and protection measures and site specific eco-development to reduce the dependency of local communities on tiger reserve resources. The effective protection and concerted conservation measures inside the tiger reserves have brought about results like arresting soil erosion, improvement of water table and overall habitat resurrection.
