What steps were taken by East India Company to control the market of cotton and silk goods?

    Answer:

                      (i) Appointment of Gomasthas: Britishers appointed a paid servant called the gomastha to supervise weavers, collect supplies and examine the quality of cloth. There were brokers who were connected with the cloth trade and were connected directly to the weavers. With the appointment of gomasthas, these mediators were eliminated. (ii) Introducing Advance Loan System: British wanted to prevent weavers from dealing with other buyers. To prevent this they introduced the system of advances. For that the weavers were given loans to purchase the raw material for their production. Those who took loans, had to hand over the cloth only to gomasthas. This insisted them to have direct control on their cotton and silk goods production.
