  Ramesh visited Delhi with his parents, where he saw mostly CNG buses are running and people using CNG instead of petrol. He was so surprised and wants to know reason behind this. (a) How would you help Ramesh in reducing his confusion? (b) State two gases, which are emitted by burning of petroleum. (c) How these gases affect us?  

Answer:

    (a) I would explain Ramesh that burning of petroleum causes more pollution than CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). Therefore, mostly people and bus drivers use CNG instead of petrol.           (b) Oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, i.e.,  and gases are released into the atmosphere, after burning of petroleum. (c) Inhalation of these gases is dangerous. It may causes lung cancer, asthma, bronchitis, etc. When these gases dissolve in water they become acid and give rise to acid rain.
