                      It is often claimed that 'the Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton. This means (i) Educationist like Thomas Arnold, founder of the modern public school system and headmaster of the famous Rugby School believed sports like cricket and rugby not just outdoor games, but these helped to teach the English boys the discipline, the importance of hierarchy the skills, the codes of honour and the leadership qualities which were essential qualities to build up British empire. (ii) Britain's military success was based on the values taught to school boys in its public schools. (iii) Eton was the most famous school at that time. (iv) The English boarding school was the institution that trained English boys for careers in the military, the civil service and the church.
