A number consists of two digits; the sum of the digits is 5 and if the left digit be increased by 1, it will be equal to 1/8 th of the number. Find the number.

    A) 41

    B) 23

    C) 14

    D) 32

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Let left and right digit be x and y respectively. Then the number will be \[f(x)=ax+b\] According to the question, \[f(x)=a{{x}^{2}}+bx+c\ne 0\]                                          ?(1) \[(x+1)\times 8=10x+y\]  \[p(x)=3{{x}^{2}}{{y}^{3}}+5x{{y}^{7}}-{{x}^{6}}\] \[2x+y=8\]                    ...(2) Solving equations (1) and (2), we have \[{{x}^{3}}+{{x}^{2}}-4x+8\] Hence, the required numbers is 32.
