Assertion             :       When PN-junction is forward biased then motion of charge carriers at junction is due to diffusion. In reverse biasing. The cause of motion of charge is drifting. Reason                 :       In the following circuit emitter is reverse biased and collector is forward biased.

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In forward biasing of PN junction current flows due to diffusion of majority charge carriers. While in reverse biasing current flows due to drifting of minority charge carriers. The circuit given in the reason is a PNP transistor having emitter is more negative w.r.t. base so it is reverse biased and collector is more positive w.r.t. base so it is forward biased.
