  • question_answer
Assertion: India has a tropical monsoon climate. Reason (R): India is located within the tropical latitudes

    A)  Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

    B)  Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A

    C)  A is true but R is false

    D)  A is false but R is true

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

India is divided into almost two equal parts, the southern half lies between the tropics while the northern half is outside the tropical zone. In fact, area of India lying in the north of Tropic of Cancer is nearly twice the area which lies to the south of it. This is due to the fact that India is quite broad in the north of Tropic of Cancer and narrows down to a point at Kanniyakumari at its southernmost tip. The northernmost limit of India is \[37{}^\circ 6'N\]latitude which is far away from the Tropic of Cancer.
