Which of the above statements are correct?

    A)  1 and 2 only

    B)  2 and 3 only

    C)  3 and 4 only

    D)  1, 2, 3 and 4

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

At the summer solstice, the North Pole has maximum inclination towards the sun and the sun's rays are vertical at the Tropic of Cancer. Consequently the areas near the North Pole are constantly facing the sun and the sun is above the horizon even at midnight. This is the reason that Norway is known as the "land of midnight sun." At time of winter solstice, the sun's vertical rays are at the Tropic of Capricorn and South Pole of the earth has maximum inclination towards the sun. Since Antarctic continent surrounds South Pole, this continent is continuously facing the sun for six months in a year.
