A woodcutter was cutting a tree on the bank of a river. His axe fell down into the river. He did not know how to swim. He began to weep. After sometime, Mercury, the God of water, appeared before him. On being asked, the woodcutter told him that his axe fell into the water. The God of Mercury dived into the water. He brought out a golden axe. He offered it to the     woodcutter. But the woodcutter did not take it. It was not his. The God again jumped into the water. This time, he brought out a silver axe. The woodcutter did not accept it either. The third time, the God brought out an iron axe. It was the woodcutter's axe. He accepted it. The God was pleased with him at his honesty. He gave him the   other two axes as a reward.
