    (i) The phases of the Moon can be seen on ide of the Earth.
(ii) Which of the phases are as equally illuminated as the Earth?

    A)  (i)-Y, (ii)-P and Y

    B)  (i)-Y, (ii)-Q and U

    C)  (i)-X, (ii)-R and T

    D)  (i)-X, (ii)-Q and U

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    (i) Phases of the Moon can only be seen during night time and as side 'Y' of the Earth is not receiving any light from the Sun, (i.e. it has night time), therefore,          phases of the Moon are visible from 'Y' side of the Earth.      (ii) Half of the Earth (side 'X') and half of the Moon ('Q' and 'U') are equally illuminated and half of the Earth (side 'Y') and half of the Moon ('Q' and 'U') are equally dark.
