The circle \[{{x}^{2}}+{{y}^{2}}-3x-4y+2=0\]cuts x-axis at [Karnataka CET 2001; Pb. CET 2002]

    A)            \[(2,\,0),(-3,\,0)\]

    B)            \[(3,\,0),(4,\,0)\]

    C)            \[(1,\,0),(-1,\,0)\]

    D)            \[(1,\,0),(2,\,0)\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Given, equation of circle is \[{{x}^{2}}+{{y}^{2}}-3x-4y+2=0\] and it cuts the x-axis. \[\therefore \]\[{{x}^{2}}+0-3x+2=0\] or\[{{x}^{2}}-3x+2=0\] or \[(x-1)\,(x-2)=0\] or \[x=1,\,2.\] Therefore the points are (1,0) and (2, 0).
