Direction: Read the passage carefully and answer the following question.
An object of mass 1.5 kg travelling in a straight line with a velocity of \[5\text{ }m\text{ }{{s}^{-1}}\] collides with a wooden block of mass 5 kg resting on the floor.
This object sticks with wooden block after collision and both move together in a straight line.
The total momentum after collision is

    A) \[3.5\text{ }kg\text{ }m\text{ }{{s}^{-1}}\]

    B) \[1.5\text{ }kg\text{ }m\text{ }{{s}^{-1}}\]

    C) \[7.5\text{ }kg\text{ }m\text{ }{{s}^{-1}}\]

    D) \[2\text{ }kg\text{ }m\text{ }{{s}^{-1}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Here, \[{{m}_{1}}=1.5kg,{{v}_{1}}=5m{{s}^{-1}}\], \[{{m}_{2}}=5kg,{{v}_{2}}=0m{{s}^{-1}}\] According to law of conservation of momentum, Total momentum after collision = Total momentum before collision \[={{m}_{1}}{{v}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{v}_{2}}=(1.5\times 5)+(5\times 0)=7.5kg\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\]
