Is it unreasonable to expect the coefficient of friction to exceed unity?

    Answer:

No. The coefficient is less than unity for normal plane surfaces. But when the surfaces are so irregular that they have sharp minute projections and cavities on them, then the coefficient of friction may exceed unity.
