A glass slab of thickness 4 cm contains the same number of waves as 5 cm of water when both are traversed by the same monochromatic ligh. If the refractive index of water 4/3, what is the refractive index of glass?

    A)  \[\frac{5}{3}\]

    B)         \[\frac{5}{4}\]

    C)  \[\frac{16}{15}\]

    D)         \[1.5\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Number of waves of wavelength contained in thickness \[t\] is given by,                 \[n=\frac{t}{\lambda }\] \[\therefore \]  \[\lambda \propto \frac{1}{\mu }\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[n\propto t\mu \] \[\therefore \]  \[{{t}_{g}}{{\mu }_{g}}={{t}_{w}}{{\mu }_{w}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[4\times {{\mu }_{g}}=5\times (\frac{3}{4})\]
