    Problems of roads transportation in India: Refer to Ans.  1 (4 Marks)
    The planned Expressway National Highway will help to meet the requirement of fast movement of traffic in the country. About 14,846 km of National Highways have been proposed to the constructed between 1999-2007 and the work is going on. These roads will have 4 or 6 lanes. These roads are:
     
    (i) Golden Quadrilateral, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata for a length of 5846 km.
    (ii) North-Sourth and East-West Corridors connecting Strinagar to Kanya Kumari and Silchar to Porbandar will have a total length of 7300 km.
    (ii) Roads connecting to 10 major ports with Golden Quadrilateral and corridors namely Kandla, Jawaharlal Nehru port, Marmagoa, New Manglore, Kochi, Tuticorin, Chennai and Ennore, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Haldia will have a length of 363 km.
