Air Transport is a great importance because

(i) Airways provide the fastest, most comfortable mode of transport.

(ii) Inaccessible and

(iii) Hostile areas (Deserts, snow covered mountains)

(iv) It plays a vital role during natural and man-made calamities like floods, droughts, earthquakes and other disasters.

(v) It can cross political barriers like international boundaries.

(vi) It has made access easier in the North-eastern states and interior parts of Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal.

(vii) It is suitable for sending valuable goods, lifesaving drugs, perishable commodities, mails etc. to distant places within a short time.

(viii) It plays an important role for the defense of the country
