    What are the legislative and executive powers of the President? Or Describe powers and functions of the President of India.?

    Answer:

    Legislative Powers: (a) He nominates two members of the Anglo-Indian Community to the Lok Sabha and one-sixth members to Rajya Sabha from among eminent people in any field. (b) He can pass ordinances when Parliament is not in session. (c) The President can summon, prorogue, dissolve or adjourn the central legislature. (d) A Bill must get the President's consent before it becomes a law. (e) He causes the budget to be placed before the floor of the House. (f) He can return a non-money bill to the Lok Sabha once for reconsideration. Executive powers: (a) He appoints the Prime Minister and on his advice, other members of the Council of Ministers. (b) He appoints all top ranking officials, e.g., State Governors, Attrorney General and the Chief Election Commissioner. (c) He can declare war, make peace and sign treaties with other countries. (d) He receives the credentials of Ambassadors from other countries.
